Trigeminal Neuralgia

Global News Online “ The ‘invisible pain':  BC marks Trigeminal Neuralgia awareness day ” by Yuliya Talmazan, 7 October, 2015.

Swallowing Problems (Dysphagia)

First published in the newsletter for Speech-Language and Audiology Canada, a reprint in International Communication Project

Also reprinted in Dysdine (Dysphagia Dining) with editorial comments:

Jennifer discusses the role dysphagia played in her personal story. She self-identified a swallowing issue and brought it to the attention of her primary care doctor who dismissed its importance. Jennifer’s story is all too common – when we are experiencing a symptom, such as swallowing issues, we get frightened and concerned. It is tempting to buy-in to the idea that ‘it’s nothing’ when our medical professional shrugs at us. But in Jennifer’s case, her background as an SLP and her spirit helped her to find the resolve, and advocate for better medical attention.

Ms. Sweeney is a tremendous example of resilience of spirit and courage as she continues to use her life to spread awareness and encourage others to strive for improvement. She maintains a website and chronicles her story, her passions (which include women’s rights, health, and community advocacy), and contains helpful resources.
